Youth Mental Health First Aid
Learn how to provide mental health first aid to young people aged 11 to 24. There are three pathways to complete this course, either Face-to-Face, Blended Face-to-Face or Blended Online course.
The YMHFA course will teach you how to assist adolescents who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves, using a practical, evidence based Action Plan.
This course is based on guidelines developed through the expert consensus of people with lived experience of mental health problems and professionals.
Mental health problems covered:
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Eating disorders
- Psychosis
- Substance use problems
Mental health crises covered:
- Suicidal thoughts and behaviours
- Non-suicidal self-injury
- Panic attacks
- Traumatic events
- Severe psychotic states
- Severe effects from alcohol or other drug use
- Aggressive behaviours
DURATION & COURSE FORMATING:
Pathway 1. Face-to-Face: 14 hours of Face-to-Face instructor led training, usually over 2 days or 4 x 3.5-hours. Can be delivered at your school/organisation for groups or individuals can book onto courses
Pathway 2. Blended Face-to-Face: a self-paced e-learning component (3-4 hours), followed by Face-to-Face sessions with flexible delivery options (8 hours)
Pathway 3. Blended Online: a self-paced e-learning component (3-4 hours), followed by 3 x 2.5-hour zoom sessions
