Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) — Confident Early Support for Young People

A teacher receiving Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) training, learning critical skills to support students' mental health needs in Hong Kong schools.

Practical skills for recognising concerns early and responding with clarity and care.

Youth Mental Health First Aid gives teachers a structured, internationally recognised approach to supporting young people who may be experiencing stress, emotional difficulty or emerging signs of mental health challenges — all within clear school boundaries.

Introduction

Teachers often notice changes in students long before formal support is involved. Many want to help but worry about saying the wrong thing, overstepping or missing important signs.

Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) provides a clear, proven framework that helps educators recognise early signs, hold steady conversations and guide students toward appropriate next steps. This creates safer, calmer and more supportive school environments where concerns can be addressed earlier.
