Teen Mental Health First Aid (tMHFA) — Safe, Supportive Skills for Young People

Two teenagers reading together, engaging in a learning session focused on mental health support and first aid skills in a school setting.

Practical skills that help students notice concerns early and seek support safely.

Teen Mental Health First Aid equips students with a peer-led framework for recognising when a friend may be struggling, responding with care and involving a trusted adult — helping create a safer school community.

Introduction

Teenagers often spot changes in their friends long before adults do. Without guidance, students may try to manage these moments alone or feel unsure when to seek help. tMHFA strengthens peer support by giving young people a clear, age-appropriate action plan and steady communication tools.

As a peer-led model, students do more than receive training — they become advocates for safety, early support and stigma reduction across their school community.

Why This Course Matters

• Students learn clearer, safer ways to respond when a peer is struggling
• Early signs are recognised sooner, encouraging timely help-seeking
